Getting Here

St Alkelda’s Church can be found on Church Street in Giggleswick. Giggleswick is serviced by two train stations. Giggleswick Station is on the Morecambe/Lancaster line and Settle Station is on the Carlisle line. Both the stations are a 20 minute walk to the church. The bus service runs hourly from Settle to Skipton and back again. It stops in Settle Market Place and it is about a 20 minute walk from the Market Place.

By Car/Bike:

Whilst there is plenty of space around the church for cycles, car parking in Giggleswick is quite restrictive. The nearest public car park is Settle Swimming Pool, which can be found just after the bridge going in to Giggleswick opposite Settle College. If the Swimming Pool car park is full there is parking in Whitefriars Car park in Settle. From here it will take around a 15 minutes walk to the Church. Follow the directions described at the bottom of this page.

By Bus:

There are a number of bus services some that go through Giggleswick and others that go directly to Settle. The service 580 and 581 is run by Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire Ltd

The service 580 runs hourly between Skipton and Settle, Monday to Saturday. The service terminates by the Market Place next to the Town Hall. From there follow the directions below.

The service 581 runs 2 hourly between Kirkby Lonsdale and Settle and then continues on to Skipton, Monday to Saturday. This service travels through Giggleswick the nearest bus stop to St Alkelda’s is Belle Hill.

The service 11 runs between Horton in Ribblesdale and Tosside, Monday to Saturday. This service is run by North Yorkshire County Council and travels through Giggleswick the nearest bus stop to St Alkelda’s is Belle Hill.

By Train from Settle Station:

Walk up Station Road, and onto Duke Street turn left toward the Town Hall which is by the pelican crossing. Then follow the directions from the Town Hall below.

By Train from Giggleswick Station:

Giggleswick Station sits on the far side of the A65 on the Morecambe and Lancaster Line. It is a little way from the church and will take around 20 minutes walk to reach it. There are a couple of bus services the 11 Tosside to Horton in Ribblesdale and the 581 Kirkby Lonsdale to Skipton that serve the bus stop by The Craven Arms just by the junction.

As you come out of the station and cross the A65 to the junction opposite with the Craven Arms on your left. Continue on down the road until you reach the mini roundabout and then turn left to head towards the centre of Giggleswick. Carry on down the road passing the junction on the right and head towards the white pavilion and all weather pitch which is part of Giggleswick School. Continue onward past Castlebergh Hospital and on to the road end, where you must turn right to go over the bridge, and past the primary school on the left, then just further on you come to the church on your left.

Directions from Settle Town Hall:

Directions from Settle Town Hall. Walk down Kirkgate (between Boots and The House the Jack Built), pass Booths, take the lane on the left with the fire station on the right, pass Lay of the Land, follow the road round to the right and cross the river by the foot bridge. Just after the footbridge the path bears to the right and takes you into a snicket. Go down the snicket until it opens up on the road. Turn right up the slight incline and as you come past the road junction on your right you will see the church tower in front of you.
